    Hello, everybody,

regarding the special PIS files we are considering something unusual: we want to remove a feature...! 8o It's about the possibility to add additional destinations/stops and routes in special FIS files that we want to take back.

This feature has a very big problem, which can best be explained very quickly with a short example: Let's say I simply have an IBIS and a stop display. Since special FIS files are customized for the respective modules and use different special FIS files accordingly, it can currently happen that instead of entering a route from the basic FIS file, a route from the special FIS file assigned to it is entered into IBIS. But the problem now is: As soon as it sends the route and the current stop index to the interior display, it will of course try to determine the corresponding strings. But since it uses its "own" FIS file, it does not contain the added routes and stops and cannot display anything!

Now one could object: "Never mind, then you just have to script IBIS and display to use the same special FIS file. - No, unfortunately it is not that simple, because then the problem is solved only for this IBIS-display combination! And at the latest, when suddenly someone programs a roll tape as an alternative module for the interior display, he needs additional information about the textures to be used and has to create his own special FIS file class. "Then he can use the FIS files he has created to orientate himself on the existing special FIS files!" - Yes, he can, but at the latest, if afterwards further special FIS-files are created, it will be chaotic! Especially since the number of claims and the possibilities of errors have increased so much that it is far from the inventor's intention.

For this reason the radical step: We remove this possibility! Since normally the map builder is responsible for the creation of the basic yard file anyway, he will probably provide all necessary stops/routes in principle. And if somebody should not do it, then everybody can create another, alternative base yard file at any time! And if this file is accepted, then all the special FIS files (with the additional information such as roll tape textures) will possibly even orientate themselves on the alternative basic yard file!

We are already very sure about this step, nevertheless this thread: Do you see any principle reasons not to take this step at all? Please write them here: Comments, questions, explanations to the FIS survey

Additionally I have added a survey. I want to get at least an idea of how many people are "interested" in it. (That's why the percentages are much less important than the absolute number of participants! And it should be self-evident that this poll is absolutely n o n b i n d i n g !)

    The survey options are:

What is my opinion on the withdrawal of this feature?

    • I couldn't care less, but I would still like to express this here.
    • Very good! The mess already got on my nerves!
    • Better than nothing! But I don't know how to solve it either...
    • Better than nothing at all! I've posted an alternative suggestion below!
    • I don't like it, I'd like to keep having this opportunity.
    • I don't like it at all, I think this feature is absolutely necessary for certain purposes (which I have noted down below) !
